New SR 243 Bridge Over Sugar Creek Opens Early In Maury County

The newly constructed SR 243 (North Main Street) bridge over Sugar Creek in Maury County is now open to traffic—and two months ahead of schedule.

The early completion was made possible in part by the decision to fully close the bridge during construction, which significantly reduced the timeline by eight months to a year. While the closure created some inconvenience for drivers, officials say the accelerated schedule was a key benefit.

The project was funded through TDOT’s Bridge Program, which allocates resources each year for bridge repairs, rehabilitations, and replacements based on condition and need.
