New Football Coach for Summit Selected

By Amber Pennycuff

Forrest High School’s Brian Coleman will officially be the second head football coach in Summit High School’s history. After being chosen over 150 applicants, Coleman took Scot Keasler’s place, who resigned in October.

After being promoted to Class AAA District 11 from AA-12, Summit finished out the season 1-9, with its one win attributed to Spring Hill.

Coleman’s placement at Forrest was in 2013 and the Rockets were 7-3 during the regular season, with their three losses being by a combined 12-points.

Forrest was eliminated in the 2nd round of the playoffs by State Runner-up Adamsville finishing their season 8-4.

Prior to taking the coach position at Forrest, Coach Coleman was the Defensive Line Coach at Riverdale High School. Riverdale has been home to some amazing coaches, including the reigning state-champs Alcoa High School’s head coach Gary Rankin.

This will be his 14th year in his coaching career, and Coleman has two stints as a Defensive Coordinator, as well.

Coleman states, “I am honored to be given the opportunity to be the head coach at Summit High School. I am also excited about building a great football program at Summit. There is great support from the administration, athletic director, and community which is key to building a successful program.”
