At the recent Board of Mayor and Aldermen work session, Friends of Franklin Parks Board of Governors President Dr. Monty McInturff presented a plan for a multi-purpose equestrian arena on a five-acre tract behind the main barn at the Park at Harlinsdale Farm on Franklin Road. This plan includes a 300 by 150 foot arena, fencing around the complex, and improvement to the existing 24-stall mare barn.

“Bringing the horse back to Harlinsdale,” was the cited motivation. FoFP hopes to raise the funds for this endeavor. The conservation easement on the land allows for equestrian uses, but no vote was taken after the PowerPoint presentation. An artist’s rendering shown here was submitted with the proposal. This plan is in line with the spirit of education outlined in the Master Plan for the Park at Harlinsdale.

FoFP proposes to lease the land from the city for a period of five years and take care of the day-to-day operations. Uses for this site abound with public horse shows, 4-H events, arena polo, hunter/jumper competitions and more.
