New Assistant Principal at Freedom Intermediate Announced

Pax Wiemers Franklin Intermediate Assistant Principal

Freedom Intermediate School principal Dr. Joel Hoag has tapped one of his own staff members, Pax Wiemers, to step into the role of assistant principal for the 2017-2018 school year. “During his time at Freedom Intermediate, Mr. Wiemers has proven himself to be an effective and engaging teacher, a thoughtful and collaborative colleague, and has garnered the respect of his peers through his consistent display of servant leadership in all of the roles he has taken on at our school,” Hoag said. “We are excited that our new assistant principal not only understands our school culture, but has helped cultivate it during his nine years here.”

Administrative leadership has been a goal of Wiemers’, who was in the 2016 inaugural class of the FSSD’s Leadership Intern program, where participants experienced the day-to-day responsibilities of school leaders by shadowing principals throughout the year. He also holds an Education Specialist’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 2015.

At Freedom Intermediate, Wiemers’ teaching experience includes 5th and 6th grade social studies as well as his most recent post as the school’s digital literacy and technology teacher. Prior to his arrival in the Franklin Special School District, he taught reading and science in the 5th and 6th grades in private schools. He holds a B.S. degree in Speech Pathology/Audiology and a M.Ed. in Elementary Education, both from Tennessee State University.

Wiemers will be stepping into a position vacated by the retirement of former assistant principal Kirk Alexander at the end of July. “We will miss Mr. Alexander’s calm and methodical manner that was an anchor for those who worked with him throughout his 18 years of leadership at Freedom Intermediate,” Hoag said. “We wish him the best retirement he can imagine because he has certainly earned it.”
