A U.S. Navy Blue Angels jet crashed this afternoon near Smyrna, killing the pilot.

Details are at this time slim. Local meteorologists say the air there was very unstable, as per the Rutherford Source. The pilot was practicing before this week’s Great Tennessee Air Show in Smyrna. The Blue Angels were to appear at MTSU tomorrow to promote the show.

The jet crashed at 3 p.m. near Weakly Lane, about 2.5 miles from the Nissan plant, WKRN reported a La Vergne official as confirming.

Details will be added as information becomes available.

If this will effect this year’s show and appearances has not been released.
