UPDATE 6/24/13: Check out our video coverage of Dump the Pump Day!

Original Post:

Franklin Transit will be providing Free Rides on all fixed routes June 19 as a part of the Eighth Annual National Dump the Pump Day. The reference is to pumping gas and we all know the price of gasoline just keeps climbing. On this day our news crew took a ride on the Franklin Transit System to check out the available options.

“By participating in Dump the Pump Day, we will be welcoming new riders and thanking our regular riders who choose to utilize Franklin’s public transit service by offering free rides on all fixed routes,” said Debbie Henry, executive director of The TMA Group “Franklin Transit provides an affordable, and for many of our city’s residents, necessary, alternative to driving.” The latest APTA Transit Savings Report suggests that a two-person household that downsizes to one car can save — on the average — more than $9,700 a year in gasoline and other expenses associated with owning and driving a car.

All Franklin fixed route transit vehicles now have bicycle racks. The normal fare is $1. Passes also are available. The TMA Group operates and manages the Franklin Transit service.
