It’s National Cupcake Day

During this holiday season, do we need another reason to eat a cupcake? I mean we now have a holiday dedicated to this mini-cake with beginnings that date back to 1796 when a cake was baked in small cups.

Each year, December 15th celebrates National Cupcake Day, an “unofficial” national holiday. National Day Calendar states the cupcake was originally known as the 1-2-3-4 cake because the recipe called for 1 cup of butter, 2 cups of sugar, 3 cups of flour, 4 eggs and also 1 cup of milk and 1 spoonful of baking soda.

Today, we have complete stores dedicated to the cupcake. One of which will be opening on Thursday, December 17-Sprinkles Cupcakes on 12th avenue will be opening at 9am. Complete with cupcake ATM and drinking chocolate, need we say more.  It will be a destination as it is right next door to Reese Witherspoon’s store, Draper James.

But since National Cupcake Day is Today, we rounded up some of our favorite local spots to buy cupcakes.
