The domestic violence case against former Michigan football player Nate Johnson was delayed when he appeared in court on Wednesday, Oct. 25, MLive reports. Before playing for Michigan, Johnson was a standout player for Independence High School as a wide receiver.

Johnson, 19, and his attorney, Doug Lewis of Student Legal Services, said they need time to discuss his options, Lewis said. They appeared before Ann Arbor 15th District Court Judge Elizabeth Hines on Wednesday.

The case was first in court on Oct. 11, when Johnson sought new legal representation. He will next be in court on November 8.

Student Legal Services is a division of the University of Michigan’s Student Life Division and advises and represents students free of charge. Johnson was previously represented by the Washtenaw County Public Defender’s Office.

Johnson is accused of attacking a female student at 600 E. Madison in Ann Arbor, in Michigan’s South Quad dormitory area, in the early morning of Sept. 30.

Johnson had been in a relationship with the woman he allegedly assaulted.

After his arrest, he was first suspended then dismissed from the university’s football team.
