Report Says Nashville Has Most Expensive Hotels, Where Does Williamson Rank?

By ZACH HARMUTH

A travel site has dubbed Nashville the nation’s city with the most expensive hotel stays.

CheapHotels.org ranked the 30 most-populated cities by the average cost of a room in a 3-star hotel in October, which according to the site is the month in which rates reach their highest point.

Nashville came in at an average nightly price tag of $261 for its most affordable room. The survey excluded hotels with less than a 3-star rating and those lacking a central location within each destination.

Williamson County, if it would have been included in the rankings, would have ranked 25th, between Columbus, Ohio and Detroit, Michigan.

Taking an average of a room at the 10 3-star hotels in Williamson County, using the same method as the survey, gives back a $133 per night average.

The most expensive hotel was the Franklin Marriott at $189 per night.  It is a 3-star hotel. The Courtyard Franklin Cool Springs- 4-star- is $149 per night.

Nashville’s loss could be Williamson County’s gain in terms of room-nights.

“The bigger effect on tourism, and hotel night stays in particular, is more a case of supply and demand,” said Matt Maxey, Public Relations Director for Visit Franklin. “Nashville is certainly a hot spot for tourists and has been for years now, so when rooms become difficult to find, Brentwood and Franklin become the next logical place for many visitors to stay.”

At the same time, many people who visit Williamson County are already here to visit Nashville, too.

“There certainly is an overlap in visitors to Nashville and Williamson County,” Maxey said. “In the last study we conducted on this, roughly 75 percent of visitors to Williamson County were either on their way to, or on their way from Nashville. ”

Only slightly less expensive than Nashville is Boston, Massachusetts. At an average rate of $257 per night, it ranks second most expensive on the survey. Washington, D.C. completes the Top 3 podium at an average overnight cost of $192.

Memphis ranked 23rd, costing $142 per night.
