Nashville FC Wins First Game of 2015 Season

Music City’s only NPSL soccer team, and the nation’s first supporter-based team, Nashville FC, won their 2015 opening game over the Birmingham Hammers, 2-0. Defender Luke Gearin scored a second half goal off of a penalty kick, and then followed that up with another goal in the 64th minute to seal the victory. The friendly, dubbed the I-65 Cup, was Nashville FC’s first in a series of exhibition games during the 2015 regular season.

The overall goal of Nashville FC’s opening friendly with the Birmingham Hammers was for Nashville FC General Manager Bryan Johnson and Associate Head Coach Kyle Roelke to get a good look at their talented 2015 squad, especially the young players.

With their opening 2-0 win, Nashville FC looks primed for an exciting second season. Their next game will be away against the Derby City Rovers on May 12.
