Nashville FC vs Rocket City United Preview

It’s the second meeting ever between these two clubs and the first one that counts towards the standings. Let’s look at what we should be looking for when they meet in Murfreesboro on Saturday at 7:00.

So Far This Year: Rocket City United is coming off of a win over the Knoxville Force. A win that came thanks to an own goal by the Force in the 89th minute. Their other win of the season came on a late goal as well against Pensacola City.

NOTES

  • RCU are currently in third place with six points.
  • If it means anything they were defeated by Atlanta 3-0, the same team Nashville defeated 3-1.
  • Nashville FC have already beaten RCU 2-0 in a preseason 1-65 Cup Match.
  • It’s only a 2 hour drive from Huntsville to Murfreesboro, so expect at least a few traveling fans.
  • There will be a youth tournament going on at Richard Siegel Stadium the same day, so the hope is that more people will jump on the Nashville FC bandwagon by watching us take three more points.
  • The playing surface at Richard Siegel Stadium was awful during the State Tournament last week. The Six-yard box was referred to as a “dust bowl” and the rest of the field wasn’t exactly great either, so we’ll see how much that effects the game as well.
  • The attendance for the first game at Vanderbilt was 1,800 and Siegel holds about 1,500 so it could be a standing room only if a crowd like that shows up again.

PREDICTIONS:

(How the scoring works. For guessing the correct result: 1 Point. For guessing the correct score line: 1 Point For Guessing the correct Winner and scoreline 3 Points)

Steve Pennington (3 Points): Nashville FC 4 Rocket City United 0

Steve (1 Point): Nashville FC 2 RCU 1

Nate (1 Point) : Nashville FC 2 RCU 0

And apparently Rocket City United’s official website made their own predictions with the score on their schedule.

WHAT RESULTS WOULD MEAN:

A Nashville FC win would keep them atop the standings by at least 3 points with 21 points still available, the RCU loss would drop them to sixth.

A Nashville FC loss would still mean they were in first place but just one point ahead of Rocket City and possibly tied with Chattanooga depending on their outcome.

A Tie would mean that Nashville FC would stay on top of the table by at least one point and would stay four points ahead of RCU.
