Mrs. Tennessee Joins Habitat Build Saturday

Mrs. Tennessee America 2015 Cheryl Brehm and Lowe’s Heroes employee volunteers will be among more than 50 volunteers to join Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury to address the need for affordable housing in the Williamson and Maury County area as part of Habitat’s National Women Build Week, May 2-10.

National Women Build Week is a weeklong event created by Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program that challenges women to devote at least one day to help build affordable housing in their local communities. The week also spotlights the homeownership challenges faced by women. Lowe’s donated nearly $2 million to this year’s National Women Build Week and each year provides the support of Lowe’s Heroes and conducts how-to clinics at stores to teach volunteers construction skills.

The current Women Build project is the sixth annual Women Build home. The home build commenced on April 18 in Fairview, TN and will be completed and dedicated on June 20. Volunteers will be building for single mother

Jennifer Aric and her nine children. Jennifer is the caregiver for seven of her young children who still live at home, including a son and daughter who each have a disability. Adrianna has epilepsy, and Isaiah has been diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta (“brittle bone” disease). The new home will include ADA modifications for Isaiah’s wheelchair that will make everyday tasks easier and safer for him and his caregivers.

On Saturday, May 2nd from 9a-2pm, Mrs. Tennessee America 2015 Cheryl Brehm, over 50 volunteers, including veteran Women Build volunteers and a new group of volunteers from the Westhaven neighborhood, Women Build future homeowner, Jennifer Aric, and her children, Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury staff, including Director of Construction Billy Whipple and Director of Communications and Events Jennee Galland will kick off the project in the Brandenburg Cove neighborhood in Fairview. Mrs. Tennessee will be on site from 9a-11a.

About Habitat for Humanity of Williamson and Maury Counties
For 27 years, Habitat for Humanity of Williamson and Maury Counties (HFHWM) has partnered with local churches, businesses, foundations, and the public sector to provide 192 hard-working, low-income Williamson and Maury County families with the opportunity to purchase their own homes. Home construction and neighborhood development is funded through tax-deductible financial contributions and in-kind donations from local businesses, churches, civic organizations, and individuals, as well as through profits generated from the affiliate’s ReStore. These contributions, along with the labor of sponsor employees, church members, high school students, and other volunteers, enable HFHWM to build and sell homes to families who qualify.

After a thorough qualification process, applicants are selected based on three criteria: the need for housing, the ability to pay the mortgage, and the willingness to partner. HFHWM partner families must earn at least 280 hours of “sweat equity” by completing a homebuyer’s education program and working on their home and the homes of others. HFHWM sells the homes at cost and provides a zero interest mortgage loan, which make payments affordable.
