Monroe Carell Jr Children’s Hospital at WMC Receives Blanket Donation

Thanks to Skanska, the patient rooms at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital Vanderbilt at Williamson Medical Center just got a little bit softer.

Skanska, the builder of the children’s hospital, donated 15 warm fleece blankets to be used by patients of the hospital. Skanska is known for doing out-of-the ordinary gestures while working on hospital construction projects, but this is the first time the company has made blankets.

“We have done volunteer work on construction sites, we’ve made banners that all the construction workers have signed and we’ve done story time and coloring with children,” said Adam Hicks, Skanska’s preconstruction executive director. “Amy Jones and Alisha Wix on our team had seen another company that made and presented blankets, so they brought the idea to our team and before we knew it we had 50 to 60 people in our office on blanket-making teams.”

With designs and colors for both boys and girls, the blankets will be a nice touch for a child who isn’t feeling well and maybe make an unplanned hospital visit feel a little more like home.

Julie Miller, WMC chief operating officer, said this donation is a testament to the level of commitment Skanska has shown to this children’s construction project since the beginning.

“It means so much to us that they considered us with this blanket-making project,” she said. “We love to know that they are still partnering with us even though the children’s construction project is complete.”

Hicks said there are still a few more blankets that are in the process of being finished; so another blanket donation is forthcoming.
