Williamson Medical Center Picks Employee of the Year

The Williamson Medical Center announced their Employee of the Year of 2012. Michael Wallace, PM was given the award for his development of a dosage manual that has helped improve outcomes for pediatric patients in emergency situations.

“It’s a privilege to work at Williamson Medical Center with such a great team,“ said Wallace who is the first EMS employee to win the award. “I am challenged every day, and I feel blessed to love what I do.”

Wallace saw a need for guidelines regarding children’s dosages of medicines administered in WMC ambulances. He developed calculations to reduce mathematical errors during life-threatening emergencies. The manual lists dosage amounts based on the child’s weight for every drug carried on WMC ambulances.

“Michael cares deeply about the patients he serves says Allen Lovett, director of WMC’s Emergency Medical Services. “His determination to constantly improve the quality of patient care is driven by his genuine approach to see processes from a patient’s point of view. He works closely with field personal to determine the most effective way of delivering care. To be named Employee of the Year is an incredible accomplishment. Everyone on our EMS team is so proud of Michael.”

In addition to helping EMS personnel throughout the state develop versions of the pediatric dosage manual, Wallace continues to improve the EMS operations at WMC by working closely with other departments to develop best-practice standards and provide training on various new life-saving protocols, such as hypothermic treatment for cardiac arrest patients.

Wallace was awarded a $1,000 check and a plaque. He was one of four finalists for the position. Will you tell us about a time when Williamson Medical Center helped you or your family?
