The Music City All-Stars just returned from a successful dance competition in Orlando where they were cheered on by MC Hammer as a result of Twitter updates from the audience.
The competition, Dance World, is a global dance competition, and is held annually bringing over 3,500 dancers from around the world to compete over three days time. This is an invitation only event based on multiple first place and grand champion performances at competitions leading up to this ultimate contest.
“We were awarded bids or invitations to bring five dances this year, a record for us and tied with the most for any team representing the U.S.” says Coach Kirstin Hawk.
Since each dancer is only allowed three dances, the team decided to create a new Hip Hop dance using fourteen junior dancers and lead senior male dancer to a mix of classic MC Hammer songs. The team put the dance together in just eight days.
During their performance someone in the audience tweeted about the dance tagging MC Hammer and using the hashtags #2legit2quit and #hammertime. Hammer instantly retweeted and responded with applause and thumbs up, and continued to interact with the team through Twitter.
Receiving support from MC Hammer was not the only highlight of the event, the team came away with incredible finishes. Three dances including another Hip Hop dance and two Jazz dances were ranked, 7th, 8th, and 9th place in the world. And the dance that was put together in 8 days placed 12th in the world.
Coach Reynolds emphasizes “We couldn’t be prouder of our amazing dancers. Coming to Dance Worlds is an honor and the result of countless hours of hard work.”
