Mayoral Candidate Kenneth Eaton: “Transparency Builds Trust”

Kenneth Eaton is running for County Mayor this May. While many county issues are important to Eaton, such as schools, development and the budget, there is a common thread that runs through all of his platforms and that is transparency and accountability.

As Eaton says “Transparency builds trust. We don’t have line item budgets or clear access to see what our tax dollars are spent on. We must bring transparency and accountability to government to end cronyism & waste.”

Building trust is a big job for a mayor, especially when you’re running against a 16-year incumbent, but Eaton has a plan.

“Fiscal responsibility starts with being a budget hawk,” he says.

One of Eaton’s main objectives is to reduce waste by scrutinizing the budget and not spending money on items that are not the role of county government.

Eaton believes he offers a new, fresh, much-needed perspective to the county budget, thanks to his 40 plus years as a local businessman. As the owner of several car dealerships that had an excess of $75 million in sales and a real estate investor with over $20 million in transactions over a 10 year period, he strives to bring a practical, business-minded point of view to managing the county’s affairs.

What it all boils down to for Eaton is that government should function just like a household would, meaning living within its budget.

“Government should live within its means, just like people do. We should balance the budget and fund priorities without raising taxes.”
