Marshall County Mauls Page For Regional Title

In the championship game for Region 4-4A, Page fell to regional rival Marshall County 42-24. The Tigers, a long-time thorn in the side of the Patriots, used their powerful offense to top Page early, while the Patriots struggled to finish drives and had some special teams blunders to leave points on the board.

Page would get a stop on the Tigers’ opening drive as Dillon Myers would intercept Marshall County’s Ashton Posey. Page would cover 58 yards in 3 minutes, using two 16-yard Michael Magochy passes to Trevor Johnson and Myers to set up a Magochy 1-yard touchdown plunge to give Page the 6-0 lead. The Tigers’ Kamron Liggett would give Marshall County the lead after 63-yard touchdown run, his first of three on the night, to make the score 7-6. The Tigers would add another touchdown, get a stop of Page, and move back into the redzone before Michael Roberts would stop Marshall County by recovering a Tiger fumble. Page would move the ball into field goal range before a bad snap lead to the missed field goal by the Patriots. Page would get another stop and Magochy would add another touchdown, sandwiched between two Marshall County touchdowns to set the halftime score at 28-12 in favor of the Tigers.

Page came out of the locker room firing, scoring on their first drive of the second half. Magochy would finish the 70-yard drive with his third rushing touchdown of the night, but another missed point after attempt would make the score 28-18. On the ensuing Tiger drive, Myers would pick off Ashton Posey once again, this time deep in Tiger territory. Michael Roberts would take over on the drive, capping it with a 2-yard burst for a touchdown. The Patriots would get the score to 28-25, the closest the Patriots would get in the second half. Marshall County would shut out the Patriots the remainder of the game, while adding two touchdowns to make the final score 42-25.

On the day, Michael Magochy would complete 15 of his 30 passes for 162 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. Michael Roberts would lead the Patriots with 151 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown on the ground.

The loss was Page’s first regional loss of the year, dropping the Patriots to 7-3, 4-1 in 4-4A. Page finished second in the region and will host East Hamilton in the first round of the playoffs next week.
