A Franklin man, recently the target of a Franklin Police and SWAT manhunt after drunkenly threatening his sister Valerie Dalton-Leach and her fiancé Daniel Steele with a machete, has a lengthy criminal history.

Christopher Ryan Dalton, 29, was apprehended on West Meade Boulevard on Friday evening; he had been on the run since he allegedly committed an aggravated assault on Thursday at Dalton-Leach’s home on 109 Cathran Drive.

While with Steele and Dalton-Leach at her house- Dalton sometimes stayed there- he got into an argument with Steele and then “displayed a machete at his side and threatened to use it,” according to the police report.

Dalton faces aggravated assault charges, a Class C Felony, and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. His bail was set at $8,000.

Jail on Feb. 8 after an 11-month stretch for vandalism and probation violation charges, first ran afoul of the law as an adult in September 2005- two days before his 19th birthday- when Williamson County Judge Lonnie Hoover pronounced him guilty of underage consumption of alcohol.

It was the beginning of a long, sad and busy relationship between Dalton and the Williamson County judicial system.

For the entire eleven years between his 2005 offense and his sensational arrest last week, Dalton was either in jail or on his way back. This is the fourth time he has been charged with some type of assault. He was found or plead guilty to the three previous charges- with bodily injury in July 2012 and with the threat of bodily injury in October 2007 and January 2012; he also was charged and plead or found guilty to: DUI in early 2011; 2 thefts- the first for shoplifting in 2007 and the second for theft under $500 in 2015; in March 2007 he was convicted of unlawful possession of a weapon; and vandalism twice- in 2012 and 2014.These charges and other issues led to Dalton being charged with and found guilty of 8 probation violations.

He was charged- but had charges reduced or dismissed- with: public intoxication and disorderly conduct in 2012 ; resisting arrest in 2012 and driving without a license.

He has been through the Davidson County court system, too, where in 2011 he was charged with driving on a revoked license; the charges were, however, dismissed.
