This spring, high school theatre students present their mainstage musical My Fair Lady. Based on the play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw, with the book and lyrics by Alan J. Lerner, and music by Frederic Lowe, this production promises wonder for an audience of all ages.

One rainy night in Victorian London, a cockney flower girl is brusquely toppled over by a young gentleman, spilling her bunches of violets into the mud. Overcome, she rails against the outrage. But her anger is only increased when she discovers an older gentleman copying down her every word! The pompous and irascible Henry Higgins bets his linguist colleague Colonel Pickering that in six months time he can pass off the “gutter snipe” Eliza Doolittle as a refined aristocratic lady.2

Called the “perfect” musical for its heart and wit, this stunning work about relationship, social class, and transformation is sure to delight with captivating characters, high energy dance, and such musical favorites as “With a Little Bit of Luck”, “The Rain in Spain,” “Get me to the Church on Time”, “I Could Have Danced All Night, “ and “Wouldn’t it be Loverly.” Originally opening on Broadway in 1956, it won the Tony for Best Musical in 1957, and subsequently for Best Revival in 1976, 1981, and 1993, and is bound to be a theatrical extravaganza for the entire family.
