Locker, Titans Get By Chiefs 26-10 in Week 1

A lot was under the microscope for the Tennessee Titans (1-0): how would the team fair under new coach Ken Whisenhunt, if a healthy Jake Locker would be able to make a positive contribution and if the defense would make stops.

Winning 26-10 on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs (0-1) at Arrowhead Stadium was a good start.

Jake Locker finished with 266 passing yards with 22/33 completions and two touchdowns. Chiefs’ quarterback Alex Smith struggled on the other end with 202 yards with 19/35 completions and was picked off three times by the Titans.

The defense also showed up big, holding star running back Jamaal Charles to just 34 total yards. Jason McCourty took home two of the Titans three interceptions of Smith who was also sacked four times.

Shoon Greene led the Titans with the running game with 15 carries for 71 yards; his longest carry racked up 18 yards. Receiver Justin Hunter collected 63 yards in three receptions, while Nate Washington had 59 yards on four catches.

Tennessee would get on the board late in the second quarter down 3-0, with a Delanie Walker 5-yard touchdown pass from Locker with 3:31 left and took the lead 7-3. They would get the ball back in the winding seconds to kick a 36-yard field goal to make their halftime lead 10-3.

Locker would find Kendall Wright for a 5-yard touchdown pass in their first possession after the half and extended their lead 17-3, and from there Tennessee would add on three more field goals to secure the win.

The Titans will host the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 in the team’s home opener at LP Field. Kickoff is scheduled for noon CT.
