Local Soccer Team to Play for National Title

Tennessee Soccer Club U18 Girls

The Tennessee Soccer Club (TSC) U18 Girls team is one step closer to clenching the US Youth Soccer National Championship. They won their semi-final match against the Ambassadors Football Club out of Cleveland, Ohio Saturday morning. The TSC girls didn’t allow the Ambassadors to score a single goal. The final score was 2-0.

Representatives from US Youth Soccer described the game in a post on its website: “After a scoreless first half, Peyton DePriest and Emily Zipay scored within two minutes of each other in the second half for the victory.”

The U18 Girls advance to the finals where they will take on the Carlsbad Elite from Carlsbad, California. This is the second time this group of girls from TSC has made it to the national championship. Back in 2012 they played for the title but came up short.

“This is the only championship the girls have never won so it’s a big deal,” said Coach Ronnie Woodard. “It’s our last game ever as a team, which has a lot of emotional attachment to it.”

TSC’s U14 girls team also made the trip to Frisco, Texas to compete in this year’s national championship. They made it all the way to the semi-finals where they lost in overtime to a team from Fairfax, Virginia Saturday morning.

Kickoff for the U18 national championship game is set for 10:20 Sunday morning. You can watch the game live online for free on the US Youth Soccer website. Check the Williamson Source sports page for updates.
