Local Restaurant Gains National Recognition for the 4th Year in a Row

A. Marshall Family Foods has earned recognition by Inc. magazine as one of America’s fastest-growing companies for the fourth year in a row. The middle Tennessee restaurant and hospitality company — which began as a small local grocery store in the 1990s — has grown to now include eight restaurants, two ice cream shops and a food truck, with a ninth restaurant concept — a steakhouse called Deacon’s New South — slated for a late fall 2017 opening.

“It is exciting and a great honor to be included on this list among so many industry greats and other private companies across the state and country,” said Andy Marshall, CEO of A. Marshall Family Foods. “We’ve had some unbelievable opportunities to expand our brand throughout the years and are grateful to our team and customers for continuing to support our existing concepts and welcoming new ones.”

A. Marshall Foods has experienced a three-year revenue growth of 80 percent and has expanded from 437 employees in 2013 to 688 by the end of 2016. According to Inc., A. Marshall is the third fastest-growing company in the food and beverage industry in Tennessee.

“The Inc. 5000 is the most persuasive evidence I know that the American Dream is still alive,” said Inc. President and Editor-In-Chief Eric Schurenberg. “The founders and CEOs of the Inc. 5000 tell us they think determination, risk taking, and vision were the keys to their success, and I believe them.”

In addition to Puckett’s Gro. & Restaurant locations in Franklin, Nashville, Columbia, Chattanooga and Murfreesboro, Tenn., Puckett’s Boat House and Puckett’s Trolley, A. Marshall Family Foods owns and operates four more restaurants and hospitality concepts in middle Tennessee. Homestead Manor, an antebellum property with its own restaurant, event venue and farm in Thompson’s Station, opened in 2015. Scout’s Pub in the Franklin community of Westhaven and Hattie Jane’s Creamery in downtown Columbia were opened in summer 2016, and a second Hattie Jane’s opened in March 2017 in Murfreesboro. This fall, Deacon’s New South — a modern, Southern steakhouse — will open in the historic L&C Tower at the corner of Church St. and 4th Ave. N. in downtown Nashville.

Methodology
The 2017 Inc. 5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2013 to 2016. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2013. They had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2016. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2013 is $100,000; the minimum for 2016 is $2 million. As always, Inc. reserves the right to decline applicants for subjective reasons. Companies on the Inc. 500 are featured in Inc.’s September issue. They represent the top tier of the Inc. 5000, which can be found at http://www.inc.com/inc5000.
