Goodwill Style With A Purpose

WHAT: This week, Goodwill is hosting Style With a Purpose where guests can discover new strategies for assembling eye-catching outfits at bargain prices while browsing clothing and accessories hand-picked by 11 popular fashion experts during the next Style with a Purpose Meet-Up — a special evening at Goodwill’s store in Brentwood.

The free event will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 6708 Nolensville Road, Brentwood.

Guests can enjoy interacting with the experts and get personalized advice to make shopping more fun and rewarding. They can also browse not only Goodwill’s shelves and garment racks but also merchandise especially selected by each blogger from area Goodwill stores to reflect their unique style or shopping strategies. Refreshments will be served, and door prizes will be given away.

Participating fashion experts include Akilah Skukura Moore, Alison Saylor, Ayanna Jahnee, Betsy Appleton, Elisabeth Donaldson, Elizabeth Sherwood, Kina Albritton, Lauren Coffman, Leah Ellzey, Shana Berkeley and Taylor Blanton.

Goodwill anticipates robust attendance at the event. An RSVP on Goodwill’s website at www.giveit2goodwill.org/style-meetup is requested but not required to attend.

All purchases of merchandise from Goodwill’s stores benefit the nonprofit’s mission of changing lives through education, training and employment.

3. Meet the Astronomer – Dyer Observatory’s Dr. Billy Teets

Meet the Astronomer at Dyer Observatory

WHAT: The ESA’s Gaia mission has been in space for nearly six years now and has provided astronomers with an incredibly extensive catalog of data including the positions and magnitudes for both Milky Way objects and extra-galactic sources. This talk will give an overview of the Gaia mission including details of the observatory itself and how it functions, the goals of the mission, and some of the science results.

If skies are clear, attendees will get to view an especially brilliant International Space Station flyover, and after the talk enjoy a telescope viewing in the Seyfert dome.

Cost: $6.27 per person ($5.00 admission plus $1.27 online handling fee.) Each person must have their own reservation. Infants do not require tickets.
