WHAT: This is a free lecture hosted by the African American Heritage Society of Williamson County. History Committee Co-Chair, Tina Jones, will share her research into the Charlotte and Washington Bostick Family – a large, extended African American family from the Triune area of Williamson County. They were enslaved here before the Civil War and some of their children and grandchildren were sent to Arkansas to farm cotton. Three sons (including Steven, pictured here with his wife Chaney) and a cousin enlisted in the US Navy during the Civil War. After the War, the family reunited in Williamson County, collected their friends and family and led a large wagon train to southern Illinois where they founded an African American community called the Bostick Settlement. Come hear their incredible story.
An exhibit of documents, photographs and other materials will be on display at the Archives beginning May 28th regarding the Bosticks and will be available to view before and after the lecture.
WHEN: Friday, June 1 10a-11a
WHERE: Williamson County Archives, 611 W Main St, Franklin
