Triple Crown Bakery Gives Local Girl Scout Troop Entrepreneurship Lesson

On Friday, Girl Scout Troop 2460 from Woodland Middle School visited Triple Crown Bakery in Franklin.  As part of an entrepreneurship lesson, the troop wanted to learn more about the workings of a small business.

Owner, Alena Vaughn shared her story with the troop, explaining how her business began as a home business and then grew to her current brick and mortar location.

Naming her bakery after a horse racing term – “Triple Crown”, the inside of the bakery is a reflection of Vaughn’s past horse riding days. Vaughn told the troop that she likes to display old horse race ribbons in the store to showcase her love of horse riding.

Vaughn shared with the troop the challenges of owning a small business from inventory, marketing, staff and finding the right mix of bakery items to carry.

Triple Crown Bakery opened its current location at 735 Columbia Avenue in August of 2016. Vaughn is a pastry chef who graduated from The California Culinary Academy (now Le Cordon Bleu) in San Francisco.  Hours of operation are Tuesday – Saturday 8 am – 4 pm. Follow them on Facebook for the latest updates.
