Author Talk with Robert Grede
Monday, Sept 22
6pm
Head to the library for a talk with Robert Grede about his first novel: The Spur and the Sash Head. Grede had often wondered about the faded sash and tarnished spur his father had held on to for years. He found out from family history that it was his great grand-father’s, who was a Sergeant in the Union Army during the Civil War. Sgt. George Van Norman was wounded in the Battle of Nashville, and was assigned to protect the Elm Hill plantation. He stayed in middle Tennessee after the war was over, but did make it back to his home state of Wisconsin. Grede was so interested that he wrote this historic fiction novel based on the life of his great grandfather.
