In this comedy-mystery film starring William Powell and Myrna Loy as Nick and Nora Charles, Nick is a hard-drinking, retired private detective and Nora is a wealthy heiress. One of the first detective movies, this classic film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture and spawned several sequels. Oddly enough, the book the movie is based on was written by Dashiell Hammett, not known for humor.
Literary Elements and the Science of Sherlock Holmes

Retired professor and enthusiastic Sherlockian Marino Alvarez will speak about Sherlock Holmes and his use of deduction and science in solving crimes. Alvarez is a Professor Emeritus at Tennessee State University and an Invested member of Nashville Scholars of the Three Pipe Problem and the Nashville Fresh Rashers, He is also a member of both the Sherlock Holmes Society of London and the Sherlock Holmes Society of Italy. He has published articles in the Baker Street Journal and is the author of A Professor Reflects on Sherlock Holmes, MX Publishing, London.
