Library Roundup: Sesquicentennial Event, Songwriting Workshop & More!

At the Main Library

An Evening with Storytellers featuring Eric Jacobson & Bryan Lane
Thursday, Oct 9th

Tickets may be purchased now for this special, sesquicentennial event to be held on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. As part of the 150th anniversary of this turning point in the war, hear authors Eric Jacobson and Bryan Lane as they share their insights, based on years of research, as to why the Battle of Franklin is the Greatest Story of the Civil War. Doors open at the Williamson County Public Library, 1314 Columbia Avenue, at 6:00 pm for wine and appetizers, and the program begins at 6:30 pm. Proceeds from the $25 admission will benefit the Williamson County Library Foundation, which exists to give support for the library above and beyond what County money can provide.

Artist & Songwriter Workshop with live music
Saturday, Oct. 4th

2 p.m.
Darwin Moody, President of Embassy Music, will present a free workshop for aspiring artists and songwriters.Of the workshop, Moody says, “We will be discussing the craft of songwriting – lyric, melody, what makes a great hook, and how songs get discovered.  We will also be covering topics such as becoming an artist – the recording process, what labels are looking for in independent artists, marketing and promotion, etcetera. In addition, we will be having a few of our artists performing live during the event.”

Teens Only Lock In
Saturday, Oct. 4th 5:30-8 p.m.
For ages 12-18 only, this is the library’s first ever Teen Lock In! There will be Wii gaming, board games, card games, movies, crafts, pizza and more.  Permission slips are required, so stop by the Teen Room on the 2nd floor to pick up one up, or email [email protected] to request an electronic permission slip. This event is limited to 25 teens, so sign up today!

Knitting Group

3:00 p.m. (Every Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the library’s meeting room) 

Come be a member of our weekly knitting group. Members of the group are at all skill levels of knitting, and help each other with new stitches, new projects, and encouragement.  New members are always welcome.

Roadshow Planetarium 
Sunday, Oct 5th

In close partnership with Vanderbilt University’s historic Dyer Observatory, the Physics & Astronomy departments of both Fisk University and Vanderbilt University are proud to offer a public outreach initiative comprising a large inflatable planetarium. By projecting a representation of the night sky onto the dome’s interior, attendees can learn about the constellations and various mythologies, the nature of stars, the Sun-Earth-Moon system, the Solar System planets and their motions, and many other celestial phenomena in a fun yet informative manner.

Class for children ages 6-7 1pm & 2pm
Class for children ages 8-12 1:30pm & 2:30pm
