Andra Watkins talks about walking the Natchez Trace in her new book Not Without My Father
Wed, Jan. 14, 6:30 pm

Andra Watkins will be talking about her new book Not Without My Father: one woman’s 444-mile walk of the Natchez Trace.  Reminiscent of A Walk in the Woods(by Bill Bryson), Andra asked for volunteers to walk the Natchez Trace with her.  No one took her up on the adventure of a lifetime.  She finally convinced her 80-year-old father to walk with her, since she needed someone to go with her.   But he had issues: he took his CPAP machine with him and he had other health problems.  But he had a car and gas.   She also hoped to reconnect with her father after many years.  They walked from March 1, 2014 to April 3, 2014, fifteen miles a day. Six days a week, with one rest day per week. This is her account of this 444 mile walk.

Chinese Knotting Class
Wed, Jan 14th
6p-7p

Chinese knotting is a decorative handicraft art that began as a form of Chinese folk art in the Tang and Song Dynasty. Chinese knots are usually lanyard type arrangements where two cords enter from the top if the knot and two cords leave from the bottom. The knots are usually double-layered and symmetrical. This class aims to teach the beginnings of the A 4-row Pan Chang knot with cross knots. Class fee is $10 (includes sponge, cord and thumb tags). Registration is required.
