Library Roundup: Last Chance to See Black History Month Photo Exhibit & More

The Williamson County libraries have been much of this week, but fun events will resume soon, so here is the scoop on some upcoming events.

Coming and Going Migration of Williamson County Americans – 2015 Annual Black History Month Photographic Exhibit
Through Feb 28th

The Special Collections department at the Williamson County Public Library will be hosting its annual photographic exhibit on Williamson County African American history by local historian and author Thelma Battle.  This year’s exhibit is “Coming & Going,” and will examine the history of migration to and from Williamson County in the Black community.

Topics will include the earliest slaves in the county, the reconstruction era exodus, the impacts of war, and modern immigration into Williamson County for industry, sports, and more.

The exhibit will be held in the 2nd floor Special Collections department at 1314 Columbia Ave. in Franklin, and will run from Feb. 2nd – 28th in honor of Black History Month.

 

Nashville Opera Presents “Jack and the Beanstalk”

HCA TriStar Nashville Opera On Tour presents “John Davies’ Jack and the Beanstalk.” The classic fairy tale is musically redone to teach a timeless lesson about the “Golden Rule.”

This 40-minute operetta is set to music of Gilbert and Sullivan, and can be enjoyed by the whole family. It is performed by members of Nashville Opera’s Mary Ragland Young Artist Program.

Deaf Awareness Presentation

Bridge’s Education and Community outreach department offers a Deaf Awareness Presentation to teach participants how to interact with the people who are Deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind.  The training includes an overview of:

Tips for Working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing Individuals
Working with a Sign Language Interpreter
Deaf and Hard of Hearing ADA guide for Government Services
Steps in Obtaining the Interpreting Services
