Jennifer Nettles Talks Motherhood, Wilco and The Shalom Foundation

Jennifer Nettles

Jennifer Nettles has had quite a busy schedule–performing during the NHL All-Star weekend event, out on tour and recently completed the Dolly Parton movie,”Coat of Many Colors.” And on Monday evening, Nettles took time to perform at the Shalom Foundation event, “Hymns.Hams, and Jams” at The Factory where she played music from past and present.

We sat down with Nettles to learn more about motherhood, living in Williamson County, how she married into being a hockey fan and how near and dear the Shalom Foundation is to her.

On Becoming a Hockey Fan-Nettles tell us that being from South Georgia there really wasn’t much hockey.”My husband is from Pennsylvania and I started watching hockey because of him and became a fan as well.” So you could say that she married into the sport. Nettles also performed at the NHL All-Star weekend held recently in Nashville. She met one of the players, Deena Laing, and said “the whole weekend was about the love of the sport.”

Motherhood and the so called Balancing Act-Her son Magnus is now three-years-old  and when we asked that question of ‘how do you balance work and motherhood,’ she said,  “I threw out that word balance when I became a mom, it’s really more of a dance.  I try to step in at the right time and step out at the right time.”  But Nettles admits being a mom is a tough job. Earlier that day before our interview Nettles Tweeted “3yo:No nap this afternoon, falls asleep in car 15 min from home Me:Sits in car/in driveway, eats his snacks” and goes on to Tweet “Pnut butter bites and raisins. Get into it.This is it. This is life now.” And what mom can’t relate to that Tweet?

Living in Williamson County-We always want to know why celebrities choose to live in  Williamson County and the answer is one that you probably can relate to. Nettles first said “because of the great schools” but then goes on the say  “we live towards Fairview  and its beautiful and Franklin is close and  beautiful as well.  There are so many fun pockets to explore in Williamson County like Leipers Fork, you just couldn’t ask for a better place.”

Why The Shalom Foundation – “I’ve been working for years with Steve Moore (Chairman and Founder of The Shalom Foundation) as well as visited Guatemala. The work they are doing is just fantastic. It is amazing the work the doctors are doing who donate their time. They are offering surgeries to children in Guatemala that are readily available to  children here in the US but in Guatemala those children who don’t have access to these simple surgeries can be life threatening. I’ve been on so many crazy trips with Steve Moore over the years where our plane was re-routed to Costa Rica and one time to Miami, it’s been quite the adventure. The Shalom Foundation is definitely one of my top charities to support.”
