Innovation & Technology Lead the Way for Regions

Regions

Regions has become a household name in the world of banking in the Middle Tennessee area. Their mission continues to be: offer superior economic value for shareholders while making life better for customers, associates, and the community by helping them achieve their financial goals. The core values that guide their everyday practices are: do what is right, put people first, reach higher, focus on the customer, and enjoy life.

Regions began in 1971 as First Alabama Bancshares Inc. with three locations in Birmingham, Huntsville, and Montgomery. They sought out to do something no one else was doing in the state by offering the first drive-in teller window and the first bank parking lot. They quickly expanded across Alabama because of their modern innovations. Regions continued to use technology to expand their reach and improve customer service and in 1987, they became the first bank in Alabama to provide customers with direct access to their account information via a computerized telephone inquiry service. They were also one of the first banks to utilize ATMs.

Also in the late 80s, a bill passed that allowed banks to buy others across state borders, and Regions first bought in Florida and then in Georgia, Tennessee, Louisiana, South Carolina, Arkansas, and Texas.

In 2004, they merged with Union Planters, and in 2006, they merged with AmSouth Bancorp. Today, they are one of the nation’s largest banks with more than 1500 banks and 1900 ATMs and some of the most up-to-date banking technology with their mobile banking app which allows mobile deposits.

They continue to help their customers and communities by providing some of the most expansive and modern banking technology.
