Indy, Summit need 10 Innings

The Independence and Summit baseball teams needed 10 innings to decide a winner in Thompson’s Station Wednesday night with the Eagles eventually overcoming the Spartans 3-2.

Indy scored two runs in the bottom of 10th to claim the victory after Summit broke the 1-1 tie in the top half of the frame.

Hunter Dupree got the win for the Eagles, throwing two innings in relief, striking out two. Jordan McClain had the start for Indy, throwing 7 2/3 innings and striking out six.

Zach Mather had an impressive game on the mound for Summit despite the loss, throwing 9 1/3 and striking out 10 Indy batters.

Jordan Current and Adam Martin each had big RBIs for the Eagles.

Indy took a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the third, while Summit answered in the top of the following inning.

Regulation high school baseball games are scheduled for seven frames.

It was the second half Wednesday’s doubleheader battle of South Williamson County forced by early week weather. Independence won the early game 5-3.

Indy scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the third inning, two of which came via a Cameron Carroll hit.

Summit made a push by scoring all of their runs in the fifth. Will Walton had two RBIs in that frame.

Tommy Morren got the win for the Eagles, striking out six in five innings of work.

The series finale is scheduled for Thursday at Summit.
