Huge First Half Key To BA Victory

After a first round bye, Brentwood Academy began their march for the Division II-AA state championship with a demolishing of Briarcrest, 50-3. The Eagles forced seven Saints’ turnovers and outgained Briarcrest by 230 yards.

On the opening play of the game, Jeremiah Oatsvall would find Camron Johnson for a 71-yard touchdown pass. Oatsvall would find Johnson again with 25 seconds left in the first half, sending the teams to the locker room with the Eagles on top 36-7. The Eagles would take their foot off the gas in the second half, scoring on an Oatsvall pass to Evan Beddoe and a 27-yard touchdown run by Gavin Schoenwald. The Eagles would coast to the win at 50-3.

Mr. Football Semi-finalist Jeremiah Oatsvall would finish with 292 yards passing for four touchdowns and add 28 yards rushing and another touchdown. Gavin Schoenwald would add two touchdowns for BA on the game. The Eagles defense would hold Briarcrest to 214 yards of offense and force seven Briarcrest turnovers.

In next week’s game, Brentwood Academy has a rematch against Baylor in the semi-finals of the DII-AA playoffs. The Eagles beat Baylor 42-30 earlier this season in Chattanooga. Brentwood Academy will be looking for their first trip to the state championship game since 2008.
