HS Baseball Recap: Summit Steal One from Oakland

Summit 10, Oakland 8 Final/8

Trailing 8-5 heading into the top of the seventh, Summit looked to be headed for a loss, a loss that would snap a four game winning streak.

The Spartans rallied for three runs in the last inning to tie things up and force extras. In the extra frame, Summit added a pair of runs to steal one from Oakland for their fifth straight win.

Jordan Kelly went four innings for the win and at the plate, three Summit hitters collected a pair of hits, including Kelly and Mississippi State signee, Dale Burdick reached base twice via base on balls.

The wild comeback win improves Summit’s record to 15-7 on the season, they host a Top 25 Columbia team today at 6:30

Spring Hill 17 Marshall County 6

The Raiders trailed 3-1 heading into the top of the fifth but that was when they scored seven runs and followed that with nine runs in the sixth to collect the blowout victory.

Josh Frantz had two hits and two RBI’s in the game. Austin Dunston also knocked in a pair of runs at the plate.

Michael Mackezyk went four and a third to get the win for Spring Hill.

Brentwood 7 Centennial 1

For the second straight game, the Bruins used their last at bats to turn a close game into a blow out. Leading 4-1 heading into the top of the seventh, Brentwood got three more across the plate to extend the lead to 7-1.

The Bruins improve to 18-2 while Centennial falls to 17-6.

Ravenwood 10 Independence 0

Ravenwood’s Bryce Denton went six innings, struck out 11 Eagle batters and only allowed four hits in the complete game shutout of Independence.

Denton also helped his own cause at the plate by knocking in three runs. His teammates, Hagan Severance and Bailey Whitten also connected for two base hits a piece.

The only player to do well at the plate for Indy was Trent Starr, who was able to collect two of his teams four hits in the contest.

Ravenwood have won their last four games to improve their record to 9 and 11 on the year. They will be at Whitehouse Heritage today at seven.

Father Ryan 3 Pope John Paul II 0

The Fightin’ Irish have improved to 14-7 with a 3-0 win over Pope John Paul II. With that victory, Father Ryan take the series from PJP2 and are winners of  four of their last five.

They will take on Overton next Tuesday before starting a three game series with Ensworth, a team ranked in the top ten by most media outlets.

Franklin Road Academy 10, HCA 4

The Panthers got an impressive 10-4 win over HCA last night as well. Byrd got the win for FRA while A. Willis collected five hits in the contest. Hunter also had a big day at the dish hitting two doubles to help propel FRA to the win.

The Panthers are now 13-5 on the season.
