Many of you may be traveling into downtown Nashville this weekend to attend one of the many events happening across downtown.

Friday night: Shania Twain performs at Bridgestone Arena, Dolly Parton is at the Ryman and the Sounds play at First Tennessee Park. This is  also the first full weekend to see concerts at Ascend Amphitheater–Eric Church performs Friday and Chicago & Earth Wind & Fire are on the state Saturday night.

TDOT Bridge repair on I-40 downtown this weekend will result in the total closure of the section of interstate that contains the Demonbreun, Broadway, Church Street and Charlotte Avenue exits, both eastbound & westbound, from 8 p.m. Friday thru 5 a.m. Monday.

The closure will complicate traveling into downtown Nashville. TDOT recommends if you are coming into and leaving the downtown area Friday night and this weekend to use I-24 interstate exchanges at Shelby Avenue, James Robertson Parkway, Jefferson Street, and I-65 interstate exchanges at Wedgewood Avenue to the south of the city and MetroCenter to the north.

Given the interstate closure, the police department will implement the following plan to move traffic as efficiently as possible; nevertheless motorists should anticipate delays.

For egress from the downtown area Friday and Saturday nights:

All traffic headed west on Demonbreun Street will be turned south on 8th Avenue/Rosa L. Parks Blvd.  At the roundabout, motorists will be able to travel south on 8th Avenue (to the Wedgewood I-65 exchange), southeast on Lafayette (to the Murfreesboro Pike I-24 exchange) or east on Korean Veterans Boulevard (to the Shelby I-65 exchange).

As for Broadway, all westbound traffic on Broadway will be turned north on 8th Avenue/ Rosa L. Parks Blvd.  They can then access I-24 at the James Robertson Parkway exchange, I-65 at MetroCenter, or proceed westbound on Church Street or Charlotte Avenue.

For egress from the Sounds game Friday night, additional officers will be assigned to the Jefferson Street, Cowan Street and North 1st Street area to assist motorists in accessing I-24 at Jefferson Street.

Motorists are strongly urged to consider this weekend’s interstate closure as they make their downtown plans and to plan on longer ingress and egress times.
