Houzz Gives us 10 Trends for Your Laundry Room

McCalls

Your laundry room is probably the most used room in your home, especially if you have a family.

At one time, the laundry room was an after thought but today, it’s become more of a design element. We found these ten trends for your laundry room over at Houzz.

10Farmhouse Style

With Farmhouse Style, you will find the use of wood on ceiling.  In this photo, the flooring looks like wood but it’s actually tile that mimics the look of wood. A smart use of the space was to hang a rod above the sink for articles of clothing that don’t belong in the dryer.

9Placement

Homeowners are choosing to use combine their mudroom and their laundry room. Here you can see where the hardwood continues from the other area of the home to the mudroom. A perfect solution is to use the Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring to avoid any issues with water.

8Color

Homeowners are choosing to use more color in their laundry room. Notice the blue cabinets which offer ample storage and this homeowner opted to add a mirrored backsplash.

7Patterned Tile

Patterned tile and color blocking of tile are a new trend. In the photo, you can see where the homeowner combined both trends. The classic look of black and white subway tile on the wall with the patterned black and white patterned tile on the floor, both add interest and style to the laundry room.

6Storage

In this laundry room, there is a combination of storage with shelving and countertops. Notice the tile accent wall as your focal point when you enter the room. Clean towels and spare laundry basket storage help to keep the pristine appearance of the room.

5Details

Laundry rooms are a place where homeowners are adding details. More and more you will see a backsplash, an under mount sink, along with lighting details other than a plain ceiling fixture.

4Laundry Island

No longer is an island designated to the kitchen, you can also have an island located in your laundry room for folding. Underneath the island is the perfect place for storage of laundry baskets and cleaning supplies.

3Counter Top

By adding a counter top above your front loading washer, you can add more work space for folding clothes. Again the trend is also to add backsplash which extends not just behind the washer and dryer but all the way up the wall.

2Sink

Whether it is washing hands from the latest craft project or washing those items that require hand-washing, a sink in your laundry room is must have feature.

1Work Space

A trend in the past was to have a desk in the kitchen, now that trend is moving to the laundry room. In this airy and open space, you see the use of marble countertops and tile flooring.
