The Home Show: Everything ‘Home’ Under One Roof

The Home Show

By Heather Listhartke

This weekend marks the 33rd time the Home Decorating and Remodeling Show has visited Nashville. Vandy Richards, owner of Show Pros, based out of Las Vegas, has been at the helm of organizing these shows all these years. Previously held at the Nashville Convention Center, the show has enjoyed a presence  downtown at the Music City Center for the last 4 years.  Despite  the weather, the gasoline availability and the inclement weather, people from all over Tennessee poured in to see what is new in home improvement.

This year’s show, while still having many of its old vendors, has brought in new talent including a Californian artist and Worthington Gallery. Vandy said their goal “focused on having as diverse of a show as possible through their array of vendors while still having plenty of comparison opportunities to shop, which allows the attendees to save time and money.” Quality is the main focus of this effort, “because you can’t touch quality on the internet,” as they like to say. The show included vendors from nearly every home-related venue including companies selling spas, home theaters, decorating and construction, services, personal health equipment, and even local publications. Here are some of the local companies that took part in the event.

Steve Watts, sales manager for Durante’s Home Exteriors along with other knowledgeable representatives showcased the wide array of product options the company offers. The setup, which stretched for several sections, displayed some of the selections they offer as well as a wonderful deck with gazebo made from durable composite materials. The beauty of the display was absolutely enticing for anyone who saw it, attracting people further into the show.

Lynn Fragetta, store manager of the Nashville location, was showing off the latest home exercise equipment they offer with an easy smile and an openness to share her knowledge about being fit. The company offers full health resources from gym quality exercise equipment from brands like Precor and Stairmaster for both commercial and residential use. Their services also include connections to physical trainers familiar with their products to deliver a full service package for health and fitness.

Bohnne Jones with Decorating Den is celebrating this year with a Dream Room award for one of her beautiful kitchen designs. Her exhibit showcases the award-winning style of her team – from the array of fabric swatches to the unique focal piece behind the bed. The creativity from their combined effort not only showed in the work that was galleried on the tv behind them, but also in the tasteful setup of their space at the show.

Will Hadden and his fellow superheroes like the one pictured, were drawing people into their display with jokes, brightly colored t-shirts, easy- going personalities, and awesome “wanted posters. ” They all offered engaging knowledgeable information to anyone who had questions. Attendees were thoroughly enlightened with anecdotes, pictures and videos explaining how to professionally solve the not-so-fun extermination and eradication of pesky pests, furry intruders as well as mildew and mold.

Southeastern Salvage was delightfully present featuring many of their popular pieces. The store, which compares the shopping experience to a treasure hunt, offers rustic pieces that often spark those interesting conversations. If you’re into “Fixer Upper “and the Southern-sophisticated style of Joanna Gaines, this is the store for you. Honestly though, you can seriously find just about anything for your home here.

The Nashville store was featuring many of their door styles in unique rounds placed strategically around their exhibit. The company, which carries solid mahogany wood and knotty alderwood doors, prides itself on the quality of the doors, but more importantly, making sure that every single one of their customers is satisfied with their choice. They take the time to get to know the style of your home and what you’re looking for in an effort to not only increase your home’s curb appeal, but also make that walk in and out of the house the transitional focal point from exterior to interior. And safety with solid wood doors is a bonus to their beauty. The guys, including Ray Novelly, offered feedback and details on the doors to anyone with questions.

This year’s show was another success. If you missed it, come back next year the the largest home show in Nashville. In the meantime, check out these local companies.
