Hits for the Homeless is a Home Run

Montgomery Gentry

Layman Ministries hosted Hits for the Homeless at The Factory in Franklin this past week. It was their inaugural event celebrating the work of those who assist the homeless in Williamson County.

Opening the evening was duo “Jack and Dave” who provided entertainment during the dinner portion of the evening.

Emcee Robbie with Renegade Radio pumped the crowd drawing an bidding war over the coveted guitar decorated by a local artist.

The home run of the night was when Montgomery Gentry took the stage.  Grand Ole Opry inductees donated their time for the evening by showcasing why they have been named both the Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Duo of the Year in 2000. Singing “Hillbilly Shoes” from their 1999 album Tattoos and Scars and ending the evening with “My Town,” the dynamic duo had the crowd on their feet wanting more at the end of their set.

With over 30 years of experience serving people with addictions, homelessness and serious mental illness, Founder of Layman Lessons, Louie Johnston Jr., has provided for the homeless since 2000. “I feel so blessed to have Eddie and Troy sign on for this event,” said Louie. “It is so important to spread the word about Layman Lessons and raise money for a great cause in Middle Tennessee.”

Layman Lessons of Tennessee acquired Welcome Baptist Church of Shelby, North Carolina in 2001, both being IRS 501c3 Religious, Charitable Organizations, to form Layman Lessons Church and Welcome Baptist Church, registered in both Tennessee and North Carolina since 2001. In 2015, Layman Lessons provided food for over one million meals to America’s needy and homeless. As of May 12, 2016 Layman Lessons has supplied food for 650,000 meals for those in need. They also provided 10,000 bottled water canteens during the hot summer days and 1,500 survival rescue blankets to the homeless during freezing temperatures, diapers for Pregnancy Centers, clothing, and more. The organization is able to serve over 24,000 in Middle Tennessee alone and the number goes well beyond that across the nation. Layman Lessons has partnered with Ken Jakes Produce, The Salvation Army, Feed America First, One Warm Coat, OneGenAway, and the 700 Club Operation Blessing.
