Construction on the Women Build home begins on April 22. Volunteers, most of which are women, will partner with single mother Stephanie Dixon to build a three-bedroom home in the Natchez neighborhood of Franklin, TN. Stephanie is a Franklin native who has been employed with APCOM, Inc. for the past 31 years. Ms. Dixon has an eleven-year-old daughter, Ronesha, who is very active at West Harpeth Primitive Baptist Church where she sings in the choir and dances with the praise team. Stephanie is delighted to be able to buy an affordable home where she can raise her beautiful daughter in a stable, safe environment.

“This will be the largest fundraiser in the history of the HFHWM Habitat affiliate,” notes Habitat Williamson-Maury Director of Communications Jennee Galland. “Hundreds of community partners are donating their time, talents, and treasure to make this year’s event a success. Alana and Lex LaBlanc from HGTV’s “Listed Sisters” are serving as this year’s HFHWM Women Build spokespeople and will emcee the event and local-favorite, Rubik Groove, will help us dance the night away! We hope everyone will come out and support their local Habitat for Humanity.”

Stephanie is counting down the days until she can pack up a moving truck. ““I’m very thankful to have this opportunity to buy a place that we can call home and thank everyone who is making this opportunity a reality.”

Sponsors for the event include Pinnacle Bank, Music City Masonry, Nissan, Journal Communications, Diversicare, Doster Construction, Censis Technologies, Nations Lending, and the Cummings family, every dollar raised at the event will go directly to the bricks and sticks of this year’s Women Build home.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward the purchase of building materials needed for the Women Build home.

For 22 years, Habitat for Humanity of Williamson and Maury Counties (HFHWM) has partnered with local churches, businesses, foundations, and the public sector to provide 202 Williamson and Maury County families with the opportunity to purchase their own homes. Home construction and neighborhood development is funded through tax-deductible financial contributions and in-kind donations from local businesses, churches, civic organizations, and individuals, as well as through profits generated from the affiliate’s ReStore. These contributions, along with the labor of sponsor employees, church members, high school students, and other volunteers, enable HFHWM to build and sell homes to families who qualify.

After a thorough qualification process, applicants are selected based on three criteria: the need for housing, the ability to pay the mortgage, and the willingness to partner. HFHWM partner families must earn at least 200 hours of “sweat equity” by completing a homebuyer’s education program and working on their home and the homes of others. HFHWM sells the homes at no profit and provides a zero-interest mortgage loan, which make payments affordable.
