At midnight on Thursday night, Taylor Swift released her latest single “Look What You Made Me Do” from her album Reputation and within less than 24 hours, the lyric video has been viewed over 5 million times.
If you are expecting more of an upbeat tune liken to that of “Shake it Off,” you might be disappointed. Speculation from fans on the meaning of the lyrics are pointing to one of the public feuds involving Swift, Kanye and Kim Kardashian or Katy Perry. Then other fans have come to the conclusion the lyrics are referring to the Game of Thrones theme.
On Swift’s Facebook page, fans have mixed reviews about the song with most stating it’s not their favorite. Another interesting fact about the new single – Right Said Fred, who penned “I’m Too Sexy,” is credited for writing the song. Â If you listen closely you can’t un-hear the similarities.
The full video will be released during the MTV Awards on Sunday night, perhaps then we can learn more about the true meaning of the song and if Right Said Fred actually assisted in writing or Swift credited him because of the similarities which is not uncommon for an artist to do. Either way, it appears this is a new era for Taylor, she evens says it in the lyrics.
“I’m sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now.”
“Why?”
“Oh ’cause she’s dead!”
