This spring more than 10,000 women will volunteer at Habitat for Humanity construction sites across the country in recognition of National Women Build Week. Now in its 10th year, Habitat’s National Women Build empowers women to take the hammer and the lead to help local families in need purchase affordable housing.

Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury (HFHWM) will be raising the walls on its ninth annual Women Build home on April 14th in Columbia, TN.

Thanks to the kind support of the Drury Plaza Hotel and Del Frisco’s Grille, HFHWM will host a kickoff event on Saturday, March 3 from 3 to 5pm for both men and women wanting to learn more about volunteering on this build.

At 3:45, there will be a short presentation and tips on fundraising for the build. Former Women Build participants will be on hand to answer questions.

The sponsorship cost of the home is $70,000. Each person who participates has a fundraising goal of $250 to go toward the cost of the house and a volunteer goal of at least 1 build day. To help participants, a toolkit is provided with ideas and step-by-step instructions on how to raise the funds. In addition, Lowe’s Home Improvement and HFHWM will also offer an optional, in-store workshop to help participants learn skills for the build site. No prior experience in either fundraising or house-building is necessary.

The event is FREE, but registration is required at https://womenbuild2018.eventbrite.com.

Those who would like join the build, but can’t make the kickoff event can contact HFHWM Volunteer Development Coordinator Rain Fisher at [email protected] or 615-550-5619.

About Habitat for Humanity of Williamson-Maury

For 25 years, Habitat for Humanity Williamson-Maury (HFHWM) has partnered with local churches, businesses, foundations, and the public sector to provide 218 Williamson and Maury County families with the opportunity to purchase their own homes. Home construction and neighborhood development is funded through tax-deductible financial contributions and in-kind donations from local businesses, churches, civic organizations, and individuals, as well as through profits generated from the affiliate’s ReStore. These contributions, along with the labor of sponsor employees, church members, high school students, and other volunteers, enable HFHWM to build and sell homes to families who qualify.

After a thorough qualification process, applicants are selected based on three criteria: the need for affordable housing, the ability to pay the mortgage, and the willingness to partner. HFHWM partner families must complete a homebuyer’s education program and earn at least 200 hours of “sweat equity” by working on their home and the homes of others. HFHWM sells the homes with an affordable mortgage to the families.
