Habitat for Humanity in Williamson County is busier than ever this summer with the dedication of Brentwood United Methodist Church’s 14th home in the county. The family of John O’Neal enjoyed a ceremony at their new home on Daniel Court in Columbia on June 3rd. BUMC has been working with Habitat since 1998 and fully sponsors each house they build. Current cost to sponsor a Habitat home is $70,000.
The Build the Foundation Breakfast held on May 18th was a huge success. County Mayor Rogers Anderson told the crowd of over 320, “I am happy to support their efforts and it’s exciting to know that so many people support this effort and their community.” Many participants and Habitat homeowners spoke at the breakfast and the stories brought tears of joy to many present. “Hearing these emotional stories of success and hard work is why I believe so strongly in the Habitat mission. Keeping hard working families in our community and fostering diversity is a benefit to our entire county. We are so appreciative of our volunteers and funders who give so generously of their time and talents,” adds John Besser, executive director of HFHWC.
Professional builders have joined the cause in Fairview as part of the Habitat for Humanity’s Home Builders Blitz 2012. This is a nationwide project seeking to build or renovate 200 homes. Habitat partners work closely to organize all aspects of the build and more than 100 Habitat affiliates are participating this year.
John Besser, executive director says, “Millard Fuller who started Habitat for Humanity in 1976 would be thrilled to see builders come together and offer gifts in kind to help a hard working family. There are over 20 organizations who collectively will have invested time, energy and funding into this project.” Locally, Alpha Roofing, American Heating and Cooling, Custom Trim, Drees Homes, Felix Enterprises, Flow Construction, Ford Custom Classic Homes, Gregg and Rains Building Group, John Maher Builders, Metro Carpets, Northwest Plumbing, Quality Builders, Samara Farms, Valley Interior Products and Warren Brothers gathered subcontractors and suppliers to obtain materials and professional labor for the build.
Volunteers for this week included helpers from Fairview High School, First Community Mortgage, Holy Family Catholic Church, My Friends House, Reliant Bank and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage.
