The Gua Sha Facial opened its doors in Brentwood at 7003 Chadwick Drive. Owned by Darlene McDowell, the new spa offers a signature facial using old Chinese techniques.

McDowell shared how the Gua Sha facial works,  “I do a luxury facial and add facial acupressure along using Gua Sha stones (made of rose quartz, jade and bian stone) to lift the face. The stones also stimulate blood circulation, relaxes the tense muscles that cause wrinkling as it firms the skin, as well as stagnant lymph is activated to clear out toxins (getting rid of the puffiness, etc). It’s an amazing process. And I always end the Gua Sha Facial session with a nice relaxation time,  so the client always leaves feeling mentally and physically refreshed.”

In addition to Gua Sha facial, she also offers a 24K gold facial, Microdermabrasion, Ultrasound treatments, Red Light Therapy and Oxygen facials, and eyelash extensions.

Before opening Gua Sha facial McDowell was a Certified Hypnotherapist and Life Coach for over 20 years. Learning the Gua Sha technique a few years ago, McDowell added it as a way to help her clients with stress and anxiety.

“For some reason, I started having more clients request the facial gua sha, which I also do the neck and shoulders with my facial, and I absolutely loved doing that and seeing how happy it makes my clients….to walk out feeling pain free or….at least a lot less pain than when they walked in the door,” said McDowell, “I just decided to  combine my Gua Sha with one of  the  luxurious facials….and it worked beautifully!”
