Grassland Special Area Plan Endorsed

The Planning Department, committed to cultivating the betterment of Williamson County, has adopted and endorsed the Grassland Village Special Area Plan in order to target its boundary issues within the Grassland area.

When the Special Area Plan, a direct result of the planning efforts was undertaken by the county and in its Comprehensive Land Use Plan in August 2007, five separate land use classifications were voted on. One of which has been named “villages.”

Four villages have been identified, but definitive boundaries are still unclear. Although the villages in Williamson County are all diverse, they share a broad mix of potential uses, a compact development pattern, a crossroad community of historical significance, limited infrastructure and are all occupying areas with increased growth pressure.

The Plan is not intended to bring new development to the villages, but it is meant to ensure that if and when new development does occur, such development will be consistent with the desired quality, as expressed by the community and as outlined in the Plan.

Following the adoption and endorsement of this plan, Williamson County Staff members and the Grassland Citizens Advisory Committee drafted Development Standards in order to help bring the plan to light.

These standards were presented in two public hearings as a proposed zoning map and text amendment.

While working to create a strategy with the anticipation of growth, development and preservation in mind, the Williamson County Planning Staff is currently looking for public input from its community members.

Throughout the next few months, County Staff, a designated Citizens Advisory Committee and community members will work together to develop a vision for the future of the Grassland Village.
