Grammy Record Breakers

grammy history

The Grammys aired Monday night, so we thought it would be a good time to look at some Grammy record breakers.

The Women

Alison Krauss has 28 Grammys, making her the most decorated Grammy living artist of all time

With her Album of the Year win on Monday night, Taylor Swift is the first woman to win Album of the Year twice

Beyoncé and Adele are the women who have won the most Grammy awards in one night. Beyoncé snagged six for her album I Am . . . Sasha Fierce in 2010, while Adele matched that number in 2012 for her second studio album, 21.

With 53 in total, Beyoncé also has the honor of being the female artist with the most nominations in the history of the awards.

Aretha Franklin has scored the Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance a total of eleven times. She was the category’s first winner back when it was created in 1968, and then went on to triumph in that same category eight times in a row.

The Men

Stevie Wonder holds the record for most wins by a solo male artist with 22 awards.

Michael Jackson and Carlos Santana are tied for the most Grammy wins ever in a single year. Santana grabbed eight for his comeback album Supernatural in 2000; a feat that had not been accomplished since Jackson won the same number for Thriller in 1984.

Quincy Jones holds the title as the most Grammy nominated artist — with a staggering 79 nominations and he has 27 wins.

Bands

U2 has won more Grammys than any other band in history, with 22 awards.
