Whether you’re headed to the Bahamas, Alaska or the mountains of Colorado your vacant house is always susceptible to burglary or vandalism while you’re away on vacation.
Here are some things you can do to protect your house while you’re away:
Ways to Secure Your Home:
- If you have an alarm system make sure it is turned on and working properly.
- Make it appear like someone is home by leaving lights on, and you can even go Home Alone style and set some people-shaped cut outs close to the window.
- Make sure all doors and gates are locked, including the garage door and any outdoor sheds or storage.
- Have someone check up on your house, whether it be a neighbor or even the local police department. If requested, the police will send a patrol car by your house while you are away on vacation to check for anything suspicious and the presence of a police car in the area will ward off criminals.
- Put anything valuable that normally stays outside, such as tools, pool accessories and expensive decorations, inside the house or locked up in a storage shed.
Making sure your house is safe will give you peace of mind while you’re on vacation and help with your overall vacation relaxation.
