GM Spring Hill Gives Back Locally Through the GM Foundation

The GM Foundation will give back more than $100,000 to the local community this year. “For us, it’s not just about building exceptional products each day, but about embracing a vision for making our community a great place to live, work and grow. We are grateful to the partners who lead these critical programs that pave the way for a better tomorrow,” said Ken Knight, complex manager, GM Spring Hill Manufacturing.

Knight has his hair on the line this year as he challenged the plant to give $50,000 to support breast cancer in this year’s walk. Last year the plant raised enough to cause other operations managers to get their head shaved into a Mohawk and painted pink to celebrate the plants success. Giving back to the community is standard at the Spring Hill plant and departments compete with one another to keep the stakes high and the excitement rolling.

“It’s the people in the plant that make it all happen every day,” said Mike Heron, UAW Local 1853 Chairman. GM focuses its giving on four areas, Education, Health & Human Services, Environmental, and Community Development. Foundation grant recipients this year were groups like 100 Black Men of Middle Tennessee, Boys and Girls Club Maury County, Imagination Library, Second Harvest Food Bank and other deserving local nonprofits. On a more local level the plant raised funds for the Boy Scouts, Habitat, Ronald McDonald House and Tornado Relief. The completion of planting more than 300 trees on the property has allowed them to request arboretum status, which they should achieve this coming year.

During the presentation many government representatives were on hand to congratulate the plant on its amazing achievements.
