Get Fit at the Brentwood Library

The Brentwood Library has openings for a number of fitness classes in March. The library offers classes such as Pilates, cardio training, morning and evening Yoga, as well as programs and speakers that deal with improving health.

Pilates
Time: Tuesdays 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.
This class will go through a series of traditional Pilates exercises that will improve your core strength, increase your flexibility, create better postural alignment, develop your balance and give you a wider range of motion. Pilates is excellent for all ages and all levels of fitness, as the instructor will modify the class based on your needs and abilities. Please bring your own mat if you have one.

Instructor: Maria Guse is a Romana’s Pilates certified instructor. She completed a 600 hour certification program with Romana Kryzanowska, who was a direct protege of Joseph Pilates, the inventor of Pilates. Maria has been teaching Pilates for ten years and recently moved to Brentwood, where she teaches both private lessons and mat classes.

Morning Yoga
Time: Mondays 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Discover how Yoga can improve strength and flexibility in your body. Study the fundamentals of yoga postures and lay the foundation for an effective yoga practice. The instructor will guide students on how to execute each pose within their ability. This class will focus on improving flexibility and gaining clarity in the mind. We will work on balance and postures to keep the core strong.

Instructor: Deirdre Crace began studying yoga regularly in 2008. She studies with Jan Campbell, for whom she is a teaching assistant. She practices Iyengar Yoga, which focuses on alignment and emphasizes the use of props to help students practice poses safely and successfully.

Evening Yoga
Time: Tuesdays 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and Thursdays 6:40 p.m. – 7:40 p.m.

How To Improve Your Gut Health: Many Disorders Begin in the Gut
Three-Week Program: March 17, March 24, March 31
This program is designed for individuals who are interested in taking actions to improve their health. The gastro-intestinal (GI) system, or the “gut”, has numerous functions, but it primarily serves as a protective barrier for the body. When the integrity of this barrier is compromised, the body is exposed to foreign bodies that stimulate the body’s response to alleviate them. It is this chronic response that leads to chronic symptoms and disorders.
During this 3-week program, Mrs. Bruey teaches about the function of the GI tract and the possible dietary and lifestyle triggers that can damage its integrity. She will teach you how to assess your gut function and to take actions to improve it if necessary. Throughout the program, she coaches you to incorporate any changes to support your wellness journey.
