A vehicle at an autobody repair shop hit a gas line today and caused a leak near the intersection of Carothers Parkway and Murfreesboro Road in Franklin.
At 1:46 p.m. the Franklin Police Department received a call that there was a gas leak in front of Accurate Autobody on 3975 Carothers Parkway.
“One of Accurate Autobody’s vehicles hit a piece of our equipment, near a meter, and caused a leak,” said Denise Manning, regional spokesperson for Atmos Energy.
Officers arrived and evacuated nearby businesses and taped off the area while Atmos workers fixed the leak.
“Whenever there is a leak we err on side of caution, which is why we evacuated the businesses” Manning said.
Atmos shut off the gas, which made the are safe, and at 3:09 p.m., the Fire Department declared and police re-opened the area and businesses.
Repairs are ongoing and the gas should be turned back on, said Manning at 4:03 p.m., within the hour.
“It was a big deal,” said Sergeant Charles Warner, of the Franklin Police Department. “But everything is okay.”
